Art Class for the Intimidated
With Denis Andre Tues. Oct. 5 8 sessions

This ART CLASS is for those who admire art but need to build confidence to
explore their creative abilities. Those that admire the ability to draw and
would like to create their own art will enjoy this Art class. The course
would develop artistic skills by hands-on learning and completing art
projects. Emphasis will be placed on learning to draw. For the first night
please bring a sketchbook, graphite pencils, a notebook and several
photographs and pictures that you admire and would like to create for
yourself such as nature pictures, post cards, etc. A materials list will be
made available for the creation of individually chosen Art projects. The
main goal is to increase self-confidence and develop the artist within us
all.

Braided Rag Rug Workshop
With Helen Sluis Mon. Oct. 4 1 Session

Fee: $45.00 + $5.85 HST
Unlike grandma’s rag rugs, this 19th century technique involves a
combination of braiding and “weaving” that produces a beautiful rug that is
not only reversible and machine washable, but also virtually indestructible
since it requires NO sewing at all. Participants will make two six-inch
trivets or may use their fabric as a starter for a larger project. A wide
variety of practical items including placemats, chair seats and area rugs
both large and small may be created using this method. All materials will be
supplied by the instructor at a cost of $10.00 (cash only) on the evening of
the class.

Chinese Brush Painting

Fee: $90.00 + $11.70 HST
This class is open to anyone wishing to learn about the Chinese art of Brush
Painting. Subjects will include bugs, flowers and birds as time allows. You
will learn on semi-absorbent paper but bring any watercolour supplies you
already have. In the last class we will stretch a picture so it is ready to
be matted and framed. Artist quality materials are available to purchase
from the instructor at an estimate of $10 - $65 cash first night of class.

Knitting - The Basics and Beyond

Learn the ancient craft of knitting. Recent studies show that knitting is
very therapeutic. Because we use both hands in knitting it is one of the few
crafts that use both sides of the brain, and has been hailed as the ‘New
Yoga’ Learn how to relax and have fun while learning to knit. This course
will take you from learning the basic knit and purl stitches, casting on and
binding off, to more advanced knitting techniques, Students will learn how
to read patterns, knit in the round, knitting with set of four needles, knit
socks, Cables, Lace patterns, Fair Isle, Kitchener Stitch, I-cords,
Provisional cast -on, several alternate cast on and bind off methods. Knit
soft toys, Bring out the best in your variegated yarn. Learn to avoid
stripes, and emphasize texture. Review a variety of yarns and learn their
properties, while knitting swatches to experiment with textured stitches,
multiple strands, and stitch count, and much more. Learn to complete your
knits like the pros. You will need 1 pair size 6mm needles. There will be a
small fee of $2.00 cash for the Yarn the first night of class. When the
first project is complete, students can then choose their next project.

Introduction to Stained Glass

Stained glass is a wonderful lifetime hobby and it is well suited for the
young and “the forever young”. We teach in small classes of 4 or less so you
have more one on one time with the instructor. You will learn how to cut
glass, grind, foil and finish one project that is yours to keep. With this
course there is no investment for tools and supplies. We love our craft and
invite you to join us, have some fun and learn a new hobby. All necessary
materials will be supplied by the instructor at a cost of $72.00, including
taxes, payable in cash at the first class.

Advanced Stained Glass - Foil Construction
With Loon’s Call Studio Tues. Oct. 5 6 sessions
Loon’s Call Studio, 5 Pinehill Drive 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Fee: $95.00 + $12.35 HST
TAKE YOUR SKILLS TO THE NEXT LEVEL. Bring your imagination, ideas and your
own tools to this advanced course. Learn to use varying widths of foil to
greater effect, methods of reinforcing larger projects, drilling holes in
glass, use of textures and accents in a project. This is your chance to be
introduced to band and ring saws and a grinder that will bevel the edges of
your glass to allow a finer join on 3D projects. You must have taken a
minimum of a beginner’s course and have continued on your own to advance
your skill levels OR you must make arrangements with our studio so we may
evaluate your skill level prior to the first class. Please call us at
519-752-9949. The materials are available at our studio and the costs will
be based on your choice of project, glass type and colour, etc. These will
be paid as purchased by cash only.

Panel Lamp Shade
With Loon’s Call Studio Thurs. Oct. 7 6 Sessions
Loon’s Call Studio, 5 Pinehill Drive 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Fee: $95.00 + $12.35 HST
Students will construct a lamp shade using a pattern of their own choosing.
This may be for a lamp base you already own or you may purchase a base at
the studio. You will choose your pattern and purchase the required materials
at the first class. NOTE: The student must be experienced in foil and solder
construction. If in doubt about experience level, please feel free to call
Loon’s Call Studio (519-752-9949) to discuss qualifications. The student
will be required to use all their own tools for this course. Tools and
supplies are available at the Studio prior to or at the beginning of the
course. Payment: cash only. Depending on the complexity of the design chosen
and course time constraints, the student may be required to do some of the
work at home.

Stained Glass Christmas Decoration

Learn stained glass while making a special Christmas Decoration for yourself
or for a gift. This course is the same as Introduction to Stained Glass -
#A005 with a Christmas theme. All necessary materials will be supplied by
the instructor at a cost of $72.00, incl. taxes, payable in cash at the
first class. If a second project is done a small additional fee may be
charged.

Watercolour People and Pet Portraits

If you admire watercolour portraits and have always wanted to learn how to
make your own beautiful paintings of your loved ones or pets, then this is
the course for you! Over this eight week course you will learn the ‘tricks’
to drawing more accurately and the watercolour techniques you need to create
portraits you will cherish for years to come. All levels are welcome. A
general list of the supplies will be given to students at the first class.
Please come to the first class with your sketch book, pencil, eraser, ruler
and a picture you would like to use for your first portrait.

Create a beautiful painting

Fee: $70.00 + 9.10 HST
Create a beautiful summer painting of Apps Mill in Traditions Artist
acrylics on an 11" x 14" wrapped canvas. In only one day, you will learn to
mix your colours and have an awesome piece to hang on your wall with pride.
You will need a sta-wet pallet, 1 scruffy brush, a ¾” and a 1/4" angle brush
and a fine liner. I will supply the paint and the canvas. This class is
suitable for a student that has had some painting experience (an
intermediate to advanced beginner). Please pay the teacher $10 at the
beginning of the class.
